Parental Involvement for Literacy

Huntingdon Primary School is proud of the success of our program geared toward parental involvement and improved test scores for students, especially in reading. As educators, we know that parental involvement is the key factor to a successful school experience. We also know that literacy and opportunities to read and use various media resources are enriching to your child’s academic success.

Because we care about the success of your child, we will open our library each Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 beginning on September 14. It is not necessary that a parent and child stay the entire time. You may come and go as you wish during the two-hour study time. We hope to establish a calm, organized learning atmosphere where parents and children can work together to read and complete school assignments. We will have limited Internet access, AR testing availability, AR book checkout for the evening for students in our building, and resource material availability for school projects.

In order to ensure a suitable work environment for the students, we require that ALL STUDENTS BE ACCOMPANIED BY A PARENT/ RESPONSIBLE ADULT. Because this is a parental involvement endeavor, parents must stay with their children. Our main goal is to encourage parental involvement in a child’s learning process. We welcome HMS students in your family to study with us as well. We do not have the same AR tests as the middle school, but they are welcome to a quiet place and use of resource materials. We ask that pre-school age children NOT be brought to the library. A parent cannot give full attention to a studying child with a little one in tow. We feel that this will be most beneficial for our students and ask that parents adhere to these guidelines.
